Biography

Matthew James Hinchliffe trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, London and the Birmingham Conservatoire. Additional training includes Arts Educational, London and NYMT.

Recent theatre credits include: Swing/Ensemble in Chess the Musical directed by Craig Revel Horwood (No.1 UK Tour), Gianmaria in The Adoration Syndrome (The Horse, London), Dancer/Puppeteer in Maestro (Henley Festival), Rapunzel’s Prince in Into The Woods (Embassy Theatre), Finnur in Hagridden directed by Stephen Clark (Embassy Theatre), Tim/Duracell/King in Lamps in the Circuit (UK Tour), Terry in Merrily We Roll Along (Crescent Theatre, Birmingham) and Ensemble in West Side Story (Birmingham Hippodrome).

His instrumental skills include, but are not limited to; clarinet, flute/piccolo, piano, soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, accordion and recorders. He has worked with numerous professional ensembles including Arcobeleno Venti and the CBSO touring in Germany and Belgium. Matthew was also selected to play as a guest soloist for Her Majesty the Queen during her Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002.

Television credits include: Doctors (BBC) and A Thing Called Love (BBC).

He will be returning to Chess the Musical in September where he will be continuing the tour at the Princess of Wales theatre, Canada.

As well as performing, Matthew also works as a freelance vocal coach, instrumental tutor (clarinet, flute, saxophone and piano), director, musical director and choreographer. He is currently represented by Sarah Bryan at Access Artiste Management and is a full member or Equity, Musicians Union and Spotlight.
